Wildcats cap winning weekend in Montana
Weber State freshman Hoo-En Chen beat Aaron Farmer in straight sets to clinch a 4-3 men's tennis win for the Wildcats at Montana State on Sunday.
The win boosted Weber State's contention for the Big Sky regular season title, capping a weekend sweep of MSU and Montana which raised its record to 4-1 in league play. The loss drops MSU to 6-2 in the conference.
While the matchup at No. 6 singles sealed Weber's win, the decisive match may have come at No. 1. WSU's Jakub Gewert won a 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 decision from Andre Napoliatano after the Wildcats won the doubles point. Javier Martin-Morillas (at No. 2) and Niklas Brandes (at No. 4) each won singles matches. Freshman Dylan Harvala came through with an exhilarating 6-7, 7-6, 10-6 win at No. 5 for the Cats, but with the team's depth stretched thin by the loss of No. 4 player Harry James to an injury MSU couldn't find the fourth singles win needed to cap the match.
Montana State hosts crucial conference matches next weekend, with perennial league power Sacramento State coming to Bozeman on Saturday while NAU, currently undefeated in Big Sky play, visits Sunday.
