Junior Amanda Jaynes narrowly misses advancing to Eugene as her trip at the West Prelims ends Friday
AUSTIN, Texas – Amanda Jaynes narrowly missed out on adding to the Montana State contingent of NCAA Championship qualifiers Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Montana State junior finished 16th overall in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division I Track and Field Preliminary Round.
Jaynes advanced to the quarterfinals Friday as the 27th seed and took advantage of the extra opportunity. The Missoula Sentinel High graduate placed sixth in the first heat of the 400 hurdles by crossing the line in 59.23 seconds, just .04 behind UTEP's Yanique Bennett for fifth in the heat.
Both Jaynes and Bennett each fell short of advancing to the NCAA Championships. Jaynes eventually finished in a time less than two-tenths of a second away from qualifying, with Missouri's Valerie Thames snagging the last non-top three heat time by earning a mark of 59.09.
Jaynes, the Big Sky Conference women's 400 hurdles champion, completed the season by improving her time from the first round to the quarterfinals at the NCAA West prelims by more than a second.
Also competing for the Bobcats Friday was Kyle Douglass, who faulted on his three attempts in the men's shot put.
Douglass will be the lone Bobcat to compete on the final day of action Saturday. His event, the discus, is set to start at approximately 12 p.m. MDT. Links to a live stream and live results from Austin are available on the Montana State men's track and field schedule page at msubobcats.com.
