Cats capture 5-2 win
BOZEMAN, Montana – In rapid succession Joaquin Espinoza, Drew Brown and Alex Flink won singles matches to clinch Montana State's 5-2 Big Sky Conference men's tennis victory over Weber State on Saturday.
After MSU captured the singles point, Portland State earned a win at No. 4 singles. Then the Cats took over, with Flink's 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 1 wrapping things up. Brown won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2, and Espinoza 7-6, 6-2 at No. 3. The win was MSU's first league win of the season, and its second dual victory.
"Alex and Drew really played well at both singles and doubles," Burnham said. Flink and Brown teamed for a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, and Christian Damgaard Qvist and Grant Wood earned a clinching 7-6 win at No. 3.
With just two matches in the last three weeks, Burnham thought his team responded. "I thought we played with energy and showed positive effects of time off," he said.
Montana State is right back at it on Sunday, hosting Northern Arizona at 2 pm.
