Montana State's 16 victories on the season are the most for the program since the 2004 Bobcats went 19-8 overall.
Montana State used a big block, fought off two set points in the opening frame, and played quality volleyball in all other phases of the game en route to 28-26, 25-14, 25-16 victory over Idaho State on Thursday night in Reed Gym
The opening set was competitive and featured 15 ties and eight lead changes. Montana State (16-7, 9-4) fought off set points at 24-23 and 26-25, before putting together three consecutive points for the win.
"It was cool to see them respond in those moments," said MSU head coach Matt Houk. "They fought off a couple of set points and stayed consistent making good plays."
MSU kept Idaho State (8-16, 6-7) off-balance in sets two and three with a strong serve. Despite being out aced by the Bengals 7-1, the Bobcats were able to put enough pace on the serve to keep ISU out of system.
"We made a nice adjustment between the first and second sets," Houk said. "Especially in our contact with the ball."
The Bobcats jumped out to an 8-1 run to open the second stanza and pulled away at the midway mark to own a 17-11 advantage to cruise to the win. MSU out-hit ISU .320 to .000, recording just two hitting errors in the set.
Leading 18-16 in the final frame, the Bobcats closed out the match with seven consecutive points capped by a block via Jordan Radick and Nellie Stevenson.
For the match, MSU out-hit Idaho State .252 to .068 and held advantages in kills (41-31), digs (53-51), and blocks (15-9)
Radick finished with a match-high eight blocks, while Camryn Greenwald added seven, and Stevenson and Madilyn Siebler with five each.
"Our block is a good part of who we are," Houk said. "We work on it every week. It is a tough skill because there are so many variables with timing and seeing the ball."
Offensively, the Bobcats were led by Kira Thomsen with 16 kills and Siebler with seven.
"It's fun to watch Kira right now," Houk commented. "The kid is a magician. She has the cut, the tip, and the ability to put it anywhere she wants right now. She's got a nice string to her bow."
Defensively, Stevenson paced MSU with 13 digs, while Shayla Webber and Lauren Lindseth added 11 and ten, respectively.
