“Three athletes racing in Sölden speaks to the quality of our well-rounded program,” Shampeny added. “At MSU, our athletes are able to pursue their athletic and academic goals at the highest level.”
Three Montana State ski standouts will open their racing season on the largest stage in the sport at the 2024-25 FIS Alpine World Cup opener in Sölden, Austria, beginning Saturday with the women's giant slalom. The men's giant slalom is scheduled for Sunday.
Bobcat skiers Justine Lamontagne, Keely Cashman and Jamie Casselman all earned their spot in Sölden. Lamontagne, who is no stranger to World Cup racing, is a two-time All-American at MSU and a member of the Canadian National team. Cashman, a sophomore transfer, and member of the United States ski team, is also a veteran of World Cup action. Cashman competed in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China.
Casselman, a native of Cranbrook, B.C., and post-bac student at Montana State, has been with the Bobcats men's team the past four seasons. During his career in the Blue and Gold, he has posted 22 top 20 performances on the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association circuit.
"We are very proud of all the Bobcats racing at the world's highest level of alpine ski racing," said MSU head alpine coach Kris Shampeny. "The MSU alpine program has been one of the best NCAA squads, and are coming off four All-America finishes at the 2024 national championships in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
