Nine Bobcats Qualify for NCAA Skiing Championships

Earning their way to the national championships from MSU are Gianluca Boehm, Isak Staurset (men’s alpine), Kristiane Bekkestad, Justine Lamontagne (women’s alpine), Fredrik Nilsen, Kai Meyers, Florian Winker (men’s Nordic), and Tilde Baangman, Kate Oldham (women’s Nordic).
The NCAA Skiing Committee announced today the 74 men and 74 women selected to participate in the 2024 National Collegiate Skiing Championships, to be held March 6-9 at Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The championships will be hosted by the University of Colorado.
Participants are selected on a regional basis from two designated regions for Alpine skiing (East and West Regions) and three designated regions for Nordic skiing (Central, East and West Regions). Bids are awarded to regions using a formula determined by the skiing committee. A maximum of 12 student-athletes (three per gender per discipline) may be selected from an institution.
Fielding complete teams of twelve are Dartmouth, Denver, Colorado, Utah, and Vermont, while New Hampshire 11, Alaska-Anchorage 10, Montana State and Middlebury 9, bring the next largest contingents to the championships.

Bekkestad, a senior from Aal, Norway, is MSU's most veteran NCAA championship racer. She will be skiing in her fourth national meet. Bekkestad earned First Team All-America honors in slalom in 2022 and 2023, and Second Team All-America accolades in 2021. Joining her on the alpine side is sophomore Justine Lamontagne who earned First Team All-America honors in giant slalom and second team recognition in slalom at last year's NCAA championships in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Gianluca Boehm, a sophomore from Samedan, Switzerland, skis in his second straight NCAAs. Last year, he captured Second Team All-America honors in slalom. Isak Staurset joins Boehm and will race in his second NCAA championship.
The Bobcat men's Nordic team fields a complete squad of three racers. Meyers, Nilsen, and Winker will all be taking part in their second NCAA championships.
On the women's Nordic side, Baangman competes in her second straight NCAAs, while Oldham will be making her first appearance on the national level.
Alpine events will be held Wednesday, March 6 at Steamboat Resort and Friday evening, March 8 at Howelsen Hill for a featured evening competition. Nordic events will run Thursday, March 7, and Saturday March 9 at Howelsen Hill.
