Montana State's men and women ride significant leads into the UM Rodeo
BOZEMAN, Montana – What a difference a month makes.
At the beginning of April, with five fall rodeos in the books and five spring rodeos still in the future, the Montana State men's rodeo team led UM Western by less than 50 points and the Bobcat women trailed MSU Northern by over 300 points. On Friday, when teams from the Big Sky Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association gather in Hamilton, Montana for the final regular season rodeo, things have changed drastically.
The Bobcats lead the Big Sky Region men's standings by more than 2,000 points, an insurmountable lead, and after winning three of the four spring season rodeos. The MSU women's team leads MSU Northern by 446 points. Last weekend's two rodeos in Miles City all but ended the drama in that race, as well.
Three Bobcats lead the region in individual events heading into the final weekend. On the men's side, Wyatt Jensen is the top tie-down roper and Jaden Whitman stands atop the steer wrestling. In the women's competition, Tayla Moeykens continues to dominate the barrel racing. In addition, Cole Gerhardt currently owns men's all-around honors.
This weekend's UM rodeo also concludes qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo, slated for mid-June in Casper, Wyoming.
