Lauren Greeny picks up weekly Big Sky recognition after incredible win at GCU Invitational
FARMINGTON, Utah – After an incredible come-from-behind win at the GCU Invitational, Montana State junior Lauren Greeny was named Big Sky Co-Golfer of the Week, the league office announced on Thursday.
The award is the second of Greeny's career following a nod after her first tournament win at the Eagle Invitational in September.
Greeny, a native of Pullman, Washington, stormed up the leaderboard in remarkable fashion to win in Phoenix on Wednesday, carding a school-record 6-under par round of 66.
The junior was tied for ninth and trailed the leader by four strokes through 36 holes on Tuesday night, but rallied with an incredible day that included a stretch of five birdies across seven holes.
Greeny trailed by a stroke entering the last hole, but calmly sank a birdie putt to force a playoff with GCU's Calynne Rosholt.
Both Greeny and Rosholt birdied the first two playoff holes, but Greeny separated herself on the third to earn the individual title.
Greeny carded a 6-under par 74-60-66 (210) across the two days at GCU Golf Course, the sixth-lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history.
Montana State finished third as a team, carding an 857—the second-lowest tournament score in school history.
The Bobcats return to action March 7-9 in St. George, Utah, at the SUU Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird.
