Bobcats face Boise State twice, Kennesaw State in weekend tripleheader
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State begins a whirlwind road trip on Friday, when the Bobcat men's tennis team plays three matches in 30 hours at Boise.
The Cats open and close the weekend against No. 38 Boise State at 2 pm Friday and 5 pm Saturday, and in between play Kennesaw State at 11 am on Saturday. The first two of those come in the BSU Spring Fling, and all three are scheduled for the Boas Indoor Tennis Center in Boise.
"Boise State is an excellent team, ranked 38th, and we're very excited for the challenge," said Bobcats coach Mateus Ceolin. "They're having the best season they've had in a few years. It will be a good experience to compete against a team at that level and an opportunity to continue working on our game against great competition to prepare for (Big Sky opponent) Sacramento State."
The Broncos own a 9-4 overall record and enter weekend competition on a high note. BSU beat No. 49 Washington 4-2 a week ago, after dropping a 4-1 decision to 42st-ranked Arizona State. Jett Middleton (5-5 at No. 1 singles) and Carson Baker (5-5 at No. 2) lead the Broncos.
In Kennesaw State, the Cats face a largely unknown entity. The Owls own a 5-4 record against competition centered in the southeast U.S. KSU opened the season with wins against Presbyterian and West Alabama (twice), and owns a two-match winning streak entering the weekend (Chattanooga, UNC Ashleville).
"I don't know a lot about Kennesaw State, but on paper it seems like a solid team," Ceolin said. "That seems like a good challenge for us, and we're looking forward to it." Anthony Weingarten and Mikolaj Lis lead the Owls at the top two ladder spots.
After MSU's weekend in Boise the Cats face Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, on Tuesday before returning to Big Sky Conference action at Sacramento State on Thursday.
