Cats play important conference contests
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State begins the home stretch of its 2024-25 men's tennis season on Saturday, when the Bobcats host Idaho at 12 noon in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center, but for head coach Mateus Ceolin the focus hasn't changed since the first day of practice.
"Just keep getting better," he says resolutely. "That's still our focus. We want to keep developing. We can not stop, especially in this stretch of four home matches."
That stretch begins with the Big Sky Conference home match against Idaho on Saturday, and a conference contest against Portland State on Sunday. Ceolin said he's appreciated how his team has focused on getting better. "The guys' approach to each match has been very professional, and I appreciate the way they respect what we're doing. They're responding very well."
The Cats haven't found team success easy to come by, with a 2-15 overall record and an 0-2 league mark entering weekend play, but MSU continues to chase a spot in the Big Sky Tournament in late April. That, Ceolin says, is accomplished by focusing on the here and now.
"Our goal is to play solid tennis every day," he said. "To go 1-0 every day. We want to solidify our culture and focus on getting better, and that will allow us to play loose and compete."
Saturday's match against Idaho at 12 noon, and Sunday's 11 am showdown with Portland State, precede an April 6 match against Idaho State and an April 10 Senior Day tilt against Eastern Washington. Those two matches close MSU's home season.
