Karli Heidemann pounded down 24 kills, while hitting .265 from the field to pace the Bobcats past Providence 25-19, 25-21, 25-20, 26-24, 15-13 in its final outing of the spring season, Saturday afternoon in Shroyer Gym.
Montana State outside hitter Karli Heidemann pounded down 24 kills, while hitting .265 from the field to pace the Bobcats past Providence 25-19, 25-21, 25-20, 26-24, 15-13 in its final outing of the spring season, Saturday afternoon in Shroyer Gym.
"I feel really good about how we played," said MSU head coach Matt Houk. "It was nice to see us come out and execute some things that we've been trying to work on. Providence is a really good NAIA school and it's no wonder they were in the national tournament last year. They are very scrappy, and our team really had to work through some situations."
Also, recording double-digit kills for MSU were Camryn Greenwald and Joelie Spelts with 14 and ten, respectively. Outside hitter Madilyn Siebler added nine kills and nine digs.
"It was a big goal of ours to get our pins (outside hitters) up over the 35% kill mark," Houk said. "To have two pins over 45% was really good. The best outsides in the Big Sky Conference are killing it at least 35% of the time. And, we didn't have that last year, so this is a nice step in the right direction."
Defensively, libero Lauren Lindseth registered 31 digs, while adding four aces. Greenwald paced the Bobcats at the net with four blocks.
"Lauren went through some real big growth the last couple weeks," Houk said. "We've asked her to take more command of the court and using her voice at a greater clip and she just ran with it. She made some changes, and we're really happy with how she responded to finish out the spring."
Freshman setter Teagan Jaynes finished the scrimmage with 58 assists, four kills, a block, and a service ace. Jaynes, who graduated high school early to join the Bobcats for spring semester, set all five games.
"One of the most important things that happened this spring was having Teagan in the gym knowing that she's going to have to come in this fall and run the show," Houk said. "She was recruited to be the starting setter as a freshman. It's nice she was able to get a semester under her belt. I thought she had a really solid scrimmage."
The Bobcats will take a month off before reporting back to campus in June.
