Pole vaulter earns second straight weekly honor from the conference after win in Las Vegas
FARMINGTON, Utah – Colby Wilson was named Big Sky Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the second straight time, the conference office announced on Monday.
The honor is the fifth of the year and the second straight for the veteran pole vaulter, who picked up a win on Saturday at the UNLV Rebel Elite Invite in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The graduate student from Olympia, Washington, cleared 17-08.25 to best Utah State's Logan Hammer and secure an astonishing 33rd career victory.
The four-time Big Sky champion and three-time NCAA Championships qualifier has picked up right where he left off after an indoor season in which he broke the Big Sky Conference record, securing dominant victories at both the Cat-Griz Dual and now the UNLV Rebel Elite Invite to begin the outdoor season.
The clearance at 17-08.25 on Saturday in Las Vegas was just an inch shy of his outdoor personal-best, and puts him at 14th in NCAA Division I this year.
Montana State track and field came away from the UNLV Rebel Elite Invite with five school records, setting program-bests in the women's 200 meters, women's shot put, women's 4x400 meter relay, men's 4x400 meter relay, and men's 4x100 meter relay.
The Bobcats return to action April 16 through April 19 in southern California, competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, and the Pacific Coast and Beach Invites in Long Beach.
