Bobcats show well in roughstock events on Sunday
CASPER, Wyo. (June 15, 2025) - Montana State got off to a strong start during Sunday's Bulls, Broncs and Breakaway performance that opened the 2025 College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming.
Holden Atkinson finished fourth in the first go-round of bull riding and Wes Shaw tied for eighth in bareback on Sunday at the Ford Wyoming Center. Cole Gerhardt tied for 12th in the bareback, as well.
"I'm pleased with our start," said Montana State coach Kyle Whitaker. It's the first time our men's program has scored points in the Sunday performance since I've been here. Holden got fourth in the round in the bull riding so he's off to a great start. I'm happy that Wes got us team points by tying for eighth place. Wes and Cole Gerhardt were both in the top 12 so that's a solid start to get them qualified for Saturday's short go."
Freshman Ella Moedl turned in a solid performance for the MSU women in breakaway roping. "The women's team had an OK start," Whitaker said. "Ella had a solid run and can build on her start. Haven (Wolstein) and Sydney (Berquist) both broke the barrier but they still have chances to get go round points and make the short go."
All Bobcat student-athletes compete during Monday's slack round. "Tomorrow is a big day!" Whitaker said.
