Stacked slate features first tournament played in Bozeman since 2010
BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Montana State head golf coach Brittany Basye announced the team's 2025-26 schedule on Friday.
The exciting slate features ten tournaments leading up to the Big Sky Women's Golf Championship and NCAA postseason and takes the Bobcats to premier courses stretching from Oahu to Houston.
MSU kicks off the fall season on September 8-9 at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
It marks a return home of sorts for Basye, who graduated from UNM in 1995 after being a WAC Player of the Year and medalist for the Lobos.
"Starting out in Albuquerque will be bittersweet for me as that is where I played college golf," Basye said. "Getting the opportunity to return to the Championship GC and bring my players will be awesome. It's a great golf course and I am anxious to get the players competing on it."
The following week on September 15-16, the Cats will host the 2025 Yellowstone Intercollegiate at Riverside Country Club in Bozeman. It marks the first time that the Cats have hosted a tournament in Bozeman since 2010 and the first time a tournament will be played in the state of Montana since MSU put on The Battle of Old Works in Anaconda in 2021.
"We are hosting a home event which is super exciting with the Yellowstone Intercollegiate at Riverside CC and will have ten teams joining," Basye said. "We are excited to bring a tournament back to Bozeman and be the host. We have a lot of great companies and people helping us to make this a great success."
The Cats continue their stretch of four fall tournaments in four weeks with the Kalispel Invitational on September 22-23 hosted by Eastern Washington in Spokane.
"Eastern Washington is hosting at a new course in Spokane so we are thrilled to be going back to the Spokane area, and in particular playing the Kalispel Golf and Country Club," Basye said.
The lone returning tournament from the 2024 fall season will have Montana State go back to Iowa City for the Diane Thomason Invitational, hosted by the University of Iowa from September 29-30.
Last season, the Cats made a statement in a talent-heavy field with Becca Tschetter earning the win in her Bobcat debut. The Cats placed third out of 15 teams, with Lauren Greeny joining Tschetter in the top-five with a fourth-place finish.
Montana State wraps up the fall with a trip to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, from October 13-14 for the Dale McNamara Invitational hosted by NCAA Regional regular University of Tulsa.
"We end the fall with a new tournament we added in Tulsa, the Dale McNamara," Basye said. "Tulsa is a top team and being able to compete at their event is huge for our players. Being able to compete in top teams' tournaments means we will be competing against the tops teams in the country. We want those opportunities."
After the winter break, Montana State travels to Palm Desert, California, for Match Play in the Desert hosted by Boise State and Wyoming from February 9-11.
Then, the Cats head to Houston for the Texas Golf Throwdown, hosted by Sam Houston from February 16-17. Incoming freshman signee Peyton DeBruin hails from Space City.
On March 17-18, Montana State returns to Hawaii for the second year in a row to compete at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawaii on the island of Oahu.
The final two tournaments of the regular season leading up to the conference championships will all take place in Arizona, starting with the Bell Bank Pay It Forward Collegiate hosted by the University of Minnesota and St. Thomas in Litchfield Park, Arizona, on March 23-24.
On April 13-15, the Cats will host the annual Bobcat Desert Classic in Goodyear, Arizona, returning to the place where Lauren Greeny earned a thrilling playoff win for her third career victory last season.
The following week, the 2026 Big Sky Women's Golf Championship gets underway at The Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
Last season, Maddie Montoya had a week for the ages in winning the individual title with three straight rounds under par for her first career victory, becoming just the third-ever Bobcat to win the conference crown.
Greeny joined Montoya on the Big Sky All-Tournament team with a T-4th place finish.
NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 11-13, with qualifiers advancing to the NCAA Championships from May 22-27 at La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California.
Last season, Maddie Montoya became the first golfer in program history to participate in the NCAA postseason, placing 48th at the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional in Arizona.
Montana State is coming off a season which included school records for four-player scoring average (295.92), individual scoring average (Lauren Greeny, 72.64), five individual tournament wins in nine stroke play tournaments, their third-ever Big Sky champion ever (Maddie Montoya), and their first-ever appearance in the NCAA postseason.
The Cats return three important pieces from last year in seniors First Team All-Big Sky selection Lauren Greeny and 2025 Big Sky Champion Maddie Montoya, plus rising junior Eva Heinz.
Additionally, four incoming freshmen bolster the ranks: Peyton DeBruin (Houston, TX), Lauren Nau (Scottsdale, AZ), Sailor Graham (Malibu, CA), and Ashleigh Wilson (Highlands Ranch, CO), alongside junior transfer Norah Seidl (Tulsa).
"With the three returners bringing experience and a winning culture we are excited to bring in the five new players to join them," Basye said. "We will be younger than in the past but our younger players have a strong competitive tournament background and the mindset we are looking for within our program. We have the leadership and winning mindset established, we just want to keep building."
