
Bobcats Finish Day One of Kalispel Invitational in Fourth Place

Graham, Wilson lead Montana State in ninth place individually
SPOKANE, Wash. --- The Montana State women's golf team opened play at the Kalispel Invitational on Monday, carding rounds of 295 and 298 to finish the tournament's opening day tied for fourth place with a total score of 593.
A pair of Bobcat freshmen finished the day inside the top 10 as Sailor Graham and Ashleigh Wilson posted 36-hole scores of 3-over 147 to earn a share of ninth place. Graham led the Cats with eight birdies on the par-72 course while Wilson posted a team-low score of 72 in the first round while competing as an individual. Junior Eva Heinz (T-17th) will also head into the final day of competition in the top 20 after posting a 4-over 148 on Monday while Lauren Greeny and Norah Seidl (T-23rd) sit just one stroke back at 5-over 149. Lauren Nau, who is competing individually, currently holds a share of 46th place while Maddie Montoya heads into day two tied for 53rd.
After a difficult start to round one, the Bobcats found their groove on the front nine to climb to third place at 7-over 295 following their first trip around the course. Teeing off from holes 12 through 15, Montana State opened with a chunk of bogeys on the back nine before sinking a dozen birdies on the front nine to move its way up in the field. Wilson, who is competing individually in Spokane, posted a team-best even-par 72 to finish round one tied for fourth while Graham and Heinz each counted a 73 to lead the Bobcats competing in the team lineup in a tie for eighth. Montana State also counted a 74 by Greeny and a 75 from Seidl to open the day at Kalispel Golf and Country Club.
The Bobcats maintained their top-five standing in the second round, carding a 298 in the afternoon to end the day tied for fourth. Graham and Seidl led the team with rounds of 74, with Graham sinking birdies on three of her last five holes and Seidl adding a pair on holes 11 and 12 to pace the Bobcats. Montana State added counting rounds of 75 from Heinz and Greeny while Wilson also shot 3-over-par in round two.
Santa Clara leads the field at 3-over 579 after 36 holes of play while Gonzaga (585), Seattle (590), Montana State (593), and Idaho (593) round out the top-five teams with 18 holes of golf remaining.
Individually, Grace Lee of Gonzaga holds a four-stroke lead over Santa Clara's Kelsey Kim at 6-under-par while Wilson and Graham sit nine strokes back of the lead at 3-over.
Montana State is paired with Utah Valley, Cal State Bakersfield, and Tarleton State for Tuesday's final round, with the quartet of teams teeing off from holes 5 through 9 at 9:30 a.m. MDT. Wilson and Nau will tee off of holes 13 and 15, respectively, as they continue to compete individually. Live scoring is available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
