Wysocki tallies 6,316 points in first collegiate decathlon
GRESHAM, Ore. --- Montana State freshman Preston Wysocki earned Montana State's first points of the Big Sky Outdoor Championships on Thursday, tallying 6,316 points in the decathlon en route to a fourth-place finish at Earl L. Klapstein Stadium.
Wysocki tallied five points for the Bobcats in his first collegiate decathlon, lifting the Montana State men to fourth place as one of five scoring teams on Thursday. He finished in the top five in five of his 10 events over the course of two days, highlighted by a victory in the 100-meter dash to open the decathlon on Wednesday
"Preston continued his strong freshman season and finished in the top four of the outdoor decathlon after his top-three finish in the indoor heptathlon," Dale Kennedy Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Lyle Weese said. "It has been a really great start to his college career, and we are excited to see what he can do in future years. It was also a good feeling having points on the board as we head into Friday."
Wysocki placed sixth in the 110m hurdles to open day two of the decathlon on Thursday, clocking a time of 15.94. He then finished eighth in the discus with a mark of 29.37m/96-4. Wysocki rounded out the competition with a trio of seventh-place results in the pole vault (3.25m/10-8.00), javelin (41.74m/136-11), and 1,500m (5:19.70), making his collegiate debut in the pole vault and 1,500m on Thursday.
Hailey Ells continued competition in the heptathlon on Thursday, opening her day with a ninth-place finish in the long jump thanks to a mark of 5.14m/16-10.50 (W+2.3). She suffered an injury in the event, which impacted her performance in the javelin, and did not complete the heptathlon after sitting out the 800m.
