McManus caps off collegiate career with 24th-place finish in Eugene
EUGENE, Ore. --- Montana State distance runner Rob McManus concluded his storied collegiate career at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday night, earning Honorable Mention All-America honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Hayward Field to open the Bobcats' weekend in Eugene, Ore.
McManus crossed the finish line in 9:04.31 to place 24th in his final collegiate meet. He concludes his collegiate career with one First-Team, two Second-Team, and one Honorable Mention All-America honor in the 3,000m steeplechase.
"Very proud of Rob and the incredible career he put together," Dale Kennedy Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Lyle Weese said. "He will certainly be missed, not only for his level of performance, but also for his great leadership and support of his teammates. Thursday will be an exciting day for our team. Sydney [Brewster] in the shot put, Tilde [Bjerager] in the 400 hurdles, and the women's 4x400 are all competing at an elite level and have a chance to put up great performances. It is really exciting to have a women's 4x400 relay in the meet for the second year in a row."
McManus rewrote the Montana State record books during his time in Bozeman, ranking second in program history in the 3,000m steeplechase, fourth in the 5,000m, and fifth in the 1,500m outdoors. He also appears five times on the Montana State indoor all-time top-10 list, including a second-place rank in the mile. He earned 11 All-Big Sky honors across his five-year career, highlighted by three-straight conference steeplechase titles. The Men's Most Outstanding Performer at this year's Big Sky Championships, McManus finishes his career ranked fourth in Big Sky history in the steeplechase thanks to his time of 8:25.83 at last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships, which was good for eighth place and First-Team All-America honors.
