An early look at Montana State's Gold Rush opponent
BOZEMAN, Mont. (Aug. 31, 2026) – The bottom line is the bottom line, and Butler's bottom line to open 2026 was a week zero win.
The Bulldogs overcame an early 10-0 deficit and scored 10 points in the game's final 17 minutes to beat Georgetown (Ky.) College, 27-23. Gabe Passini scampered in from nine yards out with 1:30 remaining in the third quarter to give Butler the lead and Beck Janki's 27-yard field goal with 10:14 to play created the winning margin.
"They found a way to win," Bobcats head coach Brent Vigen said of Saturday's Gold Rush opponent. "They were right in the middle of a very competitive Pioneer Football League last season, and we're looking forward to opening up our home season on Saturday."
Kevin Lynch led the Bulldogs to a 6-6 record in 2025, his first season at Butler. Passini threw for 145 yards and one touchdown, and rushed for a career-high 176 yards and another score. Chet Yardley (4-59-1) and Nick Munson (5-56-0) led the team's receiving corps.
Jackson Stratton led the Bulldogs with nine tackles, and added two quarterback hurries and a pass breakup. Will Beesley added seven tackles, intercepted a pass and broke up another.
