CATS IN CAMP DAY #5: Bobcats Prep for Wednesday's First Day in Full Pads

MSU defensive line ready for challenge
After a year unlike any other in Montana State football history, the Bobcats prepare for the 2026 season beginning with the first preseason practice on July 30 and culminating with the season opener at Utah Tech on August 29.
THE STRAIGHT SKINNY: The Cats practiced for two hours on Wednesday morning in half-pads. The session was the team's fifth practice of preseason camp.
PADS: The Bobcats hit another benchmark on Wednesday when the team practices in full pads for the first time. MSU coach Brent Vigen said the change in pace, intensity and physicality is always noticeable.
"This is always a transitional day," he said. "We don't get a lot of these full-pad days. We don't do a lot of tackling so it shouldn't change a lot of what we do, but it gives us small doses of seeing who can tackle and who can break tackles. So, we definitely value these days in full pads, even though they are fairly limited."

COMING UP: MSU's sixth practice of the preseason begins at 9:25 am on Wednesday on the grass fields near Dobbie Lambert Field. Wednesday's practice will be the first of camp in full pads, and will feature one tackling drill and one other full-tackle segment.
