- Football Sideline Analyst
Dan Davies has been a longstanding and influential figure in Bobcat Athletics, serving as the Football Radio Sideline Analyst since 1988. A fixture on the sidelines and in the broadcast booth for decades, Davies provides in-depth analysis and insight drawn from a lifetime of experience within Montana State football. He retired from Montana State Athletics in 2022 after more than 40 years of dedicated service to the department.
A proud Bobcat alumnus and former student-athlete, Davies played wide receiver for the Montana State football team from 1975 to 1978 and was a member of the 1976 National Championship team. That championship team was inducted into the Montana State Hall of Fame in 1988. The 1984 football team was inducted in 1994, the 1995 women’s golf team in 2006, and Davies himself was personally inducted into the Montana State Hall of Fame in 2023 in recognition of his lasting contributions to Bobcat Athletics.
Following his playing career, Davies transitioned into coaching and administration at Montana State. He served as an assistant football coach from 1980 to 1986 and was part of the 1984 National Championship staff. He later became Head Women’s Golf Coach from 1993 to 2002, leading the program to a Big Sky Conference Championship in 1995 and earning Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year honors that same season. From 1988 until his retirement in 2022, Davies served as Senior Associate Athletic Director, playing a key leadership role within the department.
Davies earned both of his degrees from Montana State University, completing a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education in 1980 and a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling in 1982.
Dan resides in Bozeman with his wife, Jan. They are proud parents of daughter Kaylee Bignell and her husband, former All-Big Sky football player Clay Bignell, and son Cody Davies and his wife, Carli. Dan and Jan are also proud grandparents to Brecken, Baylor, and Caden.
