1956 NAIA national champions… Best record in school’s history (9-0-1)… School’s last undefeated team… Played in the Aluminum bowl.
Under the direction of Coach Tony Storti, the 1956 football team was the last Bobcat grid team to finish the season with an unbeaten record (9-0-1)… Record is best since football began at Montana State in 1897… Won the national championship and fought to a 0-0 tie with St. Joseph’s College of Indiana in the 1956 Aluminum Bowl…Averaged over 35 points per game while holding opponents to just over eight points per outing… Win the Rocky Mountain Conference title led by such bobcat greats as current Hall of Fame member Sonny Holland, Ron Warzeka, Ed Ritt, Dave Alt and Don Edwards, all first team all-conference picks… Warzeka was also an All-America selection.
