Ingaldson, Fred

Fred Ingaldson
- Induction:
- 2011
- Class:
- 1956
If the term "gym rat" had entered the basketball lexicon in the decade after World War II, it almost certainly would have been applied to Fred Ingaldson.
Known for his passion and energy and relentless work at his craft, the "grinning Canadian" adapted easily to Montana State's unique up-tempo style of play, first under Brick Breeden and then Wally Lemm and Dobbie Lambert.
Ingaldson starred at Montana State almost immediately, earning team MVP and top scorer honors as a sophomore when he averaged 14.1 points for Brick Breeden's last Bobcat squad. His 409 points that season marked only the 13th time in school history a player had topped 400 points in a season. He earned Second Team All-Rocky Mountain Conference honors that season, and also earned team MVP honors after his senior season.
Following his career at Montana State, Ingaldson honed his game around Winnipeg, then gained international acclaim for his play as a member of the Canadian Olympic Team. He played in the Rome Olympics in 1960, the Tokyo Games in 1964, and the Mexico City Games in 1968.
Throughout his career, Ingaldson was known for his stylish play and positive demeanor.
