Senior forwards lead MSU to fourth straight victory
Montana State used a 14-1 run early in the second half to race past Cal Poly 73-57 in Bozeman on Sunday.
Senior Erik Rush scored 19 points and classmate Bobby Howard added 18 to lead the Bobcats, who shot 65% in the second half after a poor shooting start. Bobcat coach Brad Huse credited the Mustangs' defense in the first half with MSU's struggles.
"They took us out of some things and made it hard for us to score," Huse said. "That's kind of like it is in conference play, so it was good for us to go through that tonight. I thought we were a little more aggressive in the second half, particularly Rod (Singleton) up front, and Danny (Piepoli) worked a little harder getting good looks. They each got important baskets."
Singleton spurred the Bobcats early in the second half, scoring all 10 of his points between the 15:00 and 12:00 marks in the second half, accounting for all of MSU's points in that stretch.
MSU ended the game at 49% shooting after its 40% effort in the first half, holding Cal Poly to 40% shooting. MSU forced 22 Mustang turnovers.
