Bobcats Hits Back-to-Back Triples to Escape with Win at Sacramento State

Ashley Albert and Katie Bussey nailed back-to-back three-pointers in the waning moments to lift the Montana State women's basketball squad from a two-point deficit to a 76-71 win over Sacramento State, Thursday night in Hornet Gym.

Trailing 69-67 with 1:29 left, Albert connected from long distance to give Montana State (12-6, 4-2) a one-point advantage. Forty-five seconds later, Bussey recorded her second triple of the game to give the Bobcats a four-point cushion.

MSU had converted just two-of-16 from beyond the arc before the last minute heroics.

Sacramento State (7-12, 2-4) pulled to within 73-71 with 13-seconds left, but MSU's Ausha Cole connected on three-of-four free throws to secure the win.

“We gave up 21 offensive rebounds and had 27 turnovers and I'm scratching my head on how we got the win,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “Fortunately, Ashley and Katie hit some clutch shots and we're glad we got a win in a tough environment.

“We have a lot of concerns, but I think if we can clean some things up we'll be in for a good game on Saturday,” Binford said.

MSU built a 16-point advantage in the first half and held a 35-28 lead at intermission.

For the game, four Bobcats scored in double-figures led by Chelsea Banis with a team-high 14 points. She was followed by Rachel Semansky 13, Albert 12 and Bussey 10.

Semansky recorded a double-double with a team-high 10 rebounds.

Emily Christensen paced the Hornets with 19 points.

MSU will play at Northern Colorado on Saturday at 2 p.m.
