SCOUTING THE THUNDERBIRDS/LUMBERJACKS:
Southern Utah (10-5, 3-1) sits in second place in the Big Sky Conference South Division. Last weekend, the Thunderbirds defeated Eastern Washington 3-2, before dropping a 3-1 decision to Northern Arizona. On the season, SUU has been guided by Madi Forsythe and Remo Gaogao, who average 3.20 and 3.11 kills, respectively. MSU split its series with Southern Utah, last fall. Northern Arizona (12-3, 3-1) is also sitting in second place in the BSC South Division after splitting a pair of matches, last weekend. The Lumberjacks dropped a 3-0 contest the league newcomer Idaho, before downing Southern Utah 3-1 in Cedar City. Last week, NAU was led by Sydney Kemper, who hit .367 while averaging 3.57 kills, 3.00 digs and 1.14 blocks per set in the two matches. Last season, Montana State upset Northern Arizona 3-2 in Bozeman, before losing 3-1 at NAU.
BITS AND PIECES:
True-freshman Jolie Meade has been a nice surprise over the past six weeks. The native of Rocklin, California is tops on the Bobcat squad hitting .340 from the field. The mark also ranks 104th in the nation and is the 11th best attack mark in the nation by a first-year player...If outside hitter Kennadie Clute had enough sets under her belt this fall she would rank seventh in the Big Sky averaging 3.41 kills per set. The Spokane, Washington product needs to have appeared in at least 66.7 percent of her teams' sets to be ranked. She currently has played in just 51 percent of MSU's matches, missing most of the first month with an ankle injury....other Bobcat players listed in the Big Sky stat rankings are Katie Harrington, seventh, 10.00 assists per game, and Kasey Schlatter, seventh, 4.21 digs per set.
LOVING LONI:
Sophomore outside hitter Loni Kreun has picked up where she left off last fall, both offensively and defensively. The Davis, California product leads the Bobcats with 133 kills, averaging 2.46 per outing. In addition, Kreun is second on the team in digs with 137, averaging 2.54 saves per set. On the season, she has posted five double-doubles, including 11 kills and 17 digs against Montana.
DIGGING IT:
Kasey Schlatter is currently first on the team averaging 3.84 digs per contest. The Canby, Oregon native has totaled 219 saves this fall, including being in double-digit digs in 12 of MSU's 16 matches. Schlatter posted a career-high 36 saves against Canisius on Sept. 5. That mark was two shy of the all-time Bobcat record of 38 held by Kandice Kelly and Meghan Albiston. For her career, Schlatter has logged 883 digs, which is tenth on the all-time Montana State digs list.
