The Bobcats competed through rain and sleet to wrap up play in Pullman
PULLMAN, Wash. – The conditions weren't ideal but the Montana State women's golf team pushed through its final round at the Cougar Cup Tuesday, Sept. 19, completing action at Palouse Ridge Golf Club with a sixth-place finish.
Host Washington State won the team title by accumulating 873 strokes and topping runner-up Sacramento State (879). Montana State finished with a three-round score of 921 (306-305-310) and nearly trailed Idaho (911), Seattle (913) and CSU Fullerton (920).
The entire nine-team field completed a final round Tuesday that consisted of rain, sleet and temperatures that touched 45 degrees.
"The course conditions played tough this whole tournament," MSU head coach Brittany Basye said. "I'm proud of the girls for fighting through it. Overall, we played pretty good and we showed some consistency despite not normal golf weather."
Sophomore Kelly Hooper completed the Bobcats' best tournament appearance with an 11th-place finish. She fired a 4-over-par 76 during the third round for a 226.
Senior Jaylee Tait carded an MSU-best 18 hole total Tuesday of 3-over (75) to finish in a tie for 14th with a 228. Delaney Elliott shot an 82 and tied for 25th (234), Clare Dittemore notched an 80 and tied for 31st (237) and Coral Schulz registered a 79 and tied for 38th (240).
Lilly Navarre completed her individual appearance and tied for 23rd by shooting a 233 (79-70-84).
"We still need to work on our course management and staying confident over every shot," Basye said. "Adjustments on one or two holes and we finish in the top three. I'm looking forward to getting the team back out and competing next week."
