Montana State Drops Weekend Men's Tennis Matches

Bobcats fall at Gonzaga on Saturday, Eastern Washington on Sunday
Montana State showed individual improvements even if they haven't shown up in team results yet, dropping men's tennis matches at Gonzaga and Eastern Washington last weekend.
The Bobcats dropped a 5-2 decision at Eastern Washington on Sunday, falling 7-0 at Gonzaga on Saturday. MSU is now 0-4 on the season, but three of the losses have come to regional powers Gonzaga, Utah and BYU.
Joaquin Espinoza and Adrian Torrico earned singles wins for the Bobcats on Sunday in a non-league match at Eastern Washington. The Cats nearly captured the doubles point, as well, with Espinoza and Mateus Ceolin dropping a doubles-clinching tie-breaker. Espinoza's singles win came in three sets (7-5, 6-7, 6-2) at the fourth ladder spot, while Torrico won easily (6-2, 6-0) at No. 5. Rok Sitar suffered a narrow loss at No. 2 singles, falling 7-6 (7-0), 6-4.
"I liked our practices (after the season-opening matches two weekends ago), and I thought some of the guys built on that," said MSU coach Jared Burnham. "We have work to do and some maturing in front of us, but we're headed in a positive direction."
While capturing only the No. 1 doubles contest at Gonzaga on Saturday, Burnham was pleased with his team's effort. "I liked how we competed and how we played (at Gonzaga) for the most part," he said. Sitar was in the middle of much of the action, teaming with Alexander Flink to win at the top doubles spot. He dropped a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) decision at No. 2 singles.
The Cats return to action next weekend in Missoula. MSU faces NAIA foe Lewis-Clark State on Friday before competing in the M Cup, an exhibition with the University of Montana, on Saturday at 1 pm.
