Kelly Hooper leads MSU through opening day of conference meet
BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Sophomore Kelly Hooper sits in a tie for fourth place in the individual standings as the Montana State golf team completed the first round of play at the Big Sky Golf Championship on Friday, April 20, at Boulder Creek Golf Course.
Hooper fired an even-par 72 to pace the Bobcats following the opening 18 holes of the conference meet. She shot 1-under on the back nine and recorded the second-most amount of pars among competitors in the tournament field with 12.
"Kelly had a great day and with the windy conditions she really played well," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "She maneuvered her way around the course and took advantage of certain birdie holes to offset her bogeys."
Sophomore Delaney Elliott was the second-best finisher on Friday for the Bobcats. Elliott completed her round at 6-over 78 and is tied for 25th overall.
Rounding out MSU's scoring lineup were Clare Dittemore and Lilly Navarre. Dittemore shot an 82 and Navarre carded an 83 and are tied for 45th and 47th, respectively. Jaylee Tait completed her round with an 84 and is tied for 52nd.
The Bobcats are tied for seventh in the team standings with Northern Colorado following the first 18 holes after wrapping up a score of 315. Idaho and Portland State lead the conference meet at 296.
Northern Arizona's Sofia Anokhina is the individual leader at 3-under 69, while Portland State's Windy Huang is in second with her 2-under 70.
Second round action begins at 8 a.m. MDT on Saturday, April 21, in Boulder City. Montana State will tee off alongside Northern Colorado and Southern Utah golfers at 9:30 a.m. Live results will be available at golfstatresults.com.
