The Bobcats make their first of three trips to the University of Montana on Friday for the Al Manuel Invitational
BOZEMAN, Mont. — The Montana State track and field team will compete outdoors in the Treasure State for the first time this season as the Bobcats travel to Missoula for the Al Manuel Invitational on March 24-25.
Aside from Montana State and the host team Montana, only Carroll College, Montana Tech and Providence will be in attendance. Live stats and a live stream will not be available, but final results will be posted to the men's and women's track and field team's schedule pages on msubobcats.com.
The throws and the pole vault will have the heaviest representation from the Bobcats this weekend, while a handful of distance runners and sprinters will make their outdoor season debuts.
Friday's action starts with the women's hammer throw at 1 p.m., followed by the men's hammer throw and the men's and women's javelin. Montana State will send a group of throwers led by Matt Furdyk and Leah Klein in the hammer throw, plus Angelica Street and Cooper Hoffman in the javelin. All four Bobcats are seeded in the top two of their respective events.
Saturday's meet begins with the women's discus and the women's long jump at 11 a.m., while MSU's first running event will be the women's 4x100-meter relay at noon. Leigha Carter, Alyssa Boshart, Millie Hubbell and Sierra Snow will make their season debuts in that relay; MSU will not send a men's 4x100 relay team to Missoula this weekend.
A contingent of distance runners will make their outdoor debuts on Saturday. The 1,500 meters is the event of choice for the Bobcats, who have the top six entries in the women's race and the top four in the men's race. Mya Dube, Lindsey Paulson, Alex Moore, Hannah Perrin, Grace Gilbreth and Kendra Lusk will lead the women's race, as all six Bobcats come in with seed times of 4:40 or faster.
Meanwhile for the men, Levi Taylor, Rob McManus, Sam Ells and Riley Collins will toe the line together for the first time since the quartet threw down one of the fastest mile races in Worthington Arena at the Big Sky Tuner last month.
Sprints-wise, Alex Hershey and Sean Jackson, a recent addition to the team, will lead the Bobcats in the men's 200- and 400-meter dashes. Jackson will team up with middle-distance runners Chris Bianchini, Noah Majerus and Riley Collins for the 4x400-meter relay; for the women, Boshart, Jada Zorn, Carly Ryan and Snow will make their outdoor season debuts in the 4x400-meter relay.
The MSU throwers will be busy on Saturday as well. Ethan Saberhagen leads a group of six Bobcats in the more competitive of the two flights of the men's discus, whereas Klein, Tristen Sedgwick and Kyla Bush come in with three of the top five marks in the women's discus. Senior Jordan Fink, Klein and Bush are the top three entries in the women's shot put. For the men, Carter Slade, Elijah Jackman, Talon Holmquist and Ryan McCartney will represent the Blue and Gold in the shot put.
Montana State has five of the 10 entries in the women's pole vault, led by Maisee Brown, who is coming off back-to-back outdoor personal bests in California last weekend. Kyle Yonker and Robert Hartley are the top two entries for the men, while Caden Palm will make his outdoor season debut.
A trio of women's jumpers will head to Missoula this weekend. Hailey Coey and Taylor Brisendine are entered in both the long and triple jumps, while freshman Jayden Smith is MSU's lone athlete in the women's high jump.
Next week, the Bobcats will return to Dornblaser Field for the annual Cat/Griz Dual on April 1. All schedule updates and information can be found on msubobcats.com.
