Bobcat Nordic Team Opens Utah Invitational

Montana State junior Katey Houser posted a top 10 finish as the Bobcat Nordic team opened the Utah Invitational with a 7.5K classic race, Saturday morning at Soldier Hollow.

The product of Palmer, Alaska, finished ninth overall in a time of 24:04.0. Utah's Erica Laven won the event in 22:54.1.
Also, scoring points for the Bobcats were Kate Oldham, 17th, 24:28.3, and Anna Pryce, 19th, 24:35.9.
Others competing for MSU included Maeve MacLeod, 27th, 25:04.0, Morgan Richter, 28th, 25:12.4, and Rosie Whittington-Evans, 32nd, 26:48.8.
Freshman Grey Barbier paced the Bobcat men's team finishing 18th overall. The native of Steamboat Springs, Colo., covered the course in 21:38.9. Utah's Walker Hall captured the classic title in 19:45.9.
Jack Conde and Phineas Fischer also scored points for the Bobcats, finishing 23rd, and 25th, respectively. Conde posted a clocking of 22:25.6, while Fischer followed closely in 22:31.2.
Gavin Galyardt, 26th, 22:31.6, and Joel Power, 28th, 22:33.1, also finished the race for the Bobcats.
After the opening event, Utah sits atop the team standings with 195 points, the Utes are followed by Colorado 162, Denver 157.5, Alaska Fairbanks 114.5, Alaska Anchorage 112, and MSU 101.
The Nordic freestyle races take place Sunday with the alpine portion of the Utah Invitational slated for Feb. 8-9 at Utah Olympic Park in Park City.
