Staurset Paces Bobcat Skiers at Denver Invite

Montana State ski standout Isak Staurset posted his first podium appearance of the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association season placing second in giant slalom at the Denver Invitational on Wednesday morning at Copper Mountain Ski Resort.
Montana State ski standout Isak Staurset posted his first podium appearance of the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association season placing second in giant slalom at the Denver Invitational on Wednesday morning at Copper Mountain Ski Resort.
Staurset, a senior from Andalnes, Norway, posted a two-run total of 1:35.05, just behind Colorado's Louis Fausa (1:34.72). Staurset's 48.16 opening run was the fourth fastest of the round and led the Bobcat men to the second highest alpine total of the event with 82 points.
Also, scoring for MSU were Tanner Perkins, sixth, 1:35.35, and Gianluca Boehm, 16th, 1:36.23.
Ylva Falksete guided the MSU women finishing 14th with a two-run total of 1:39.42. She was followed by Mackenzie Greenslade, 23rd, 1:42.52.
After the alpine portion of the DU Invite, Colorado sits atop the team standings with 379 points, followed by Utah 316, DU 290.5, Alaska-Anchorage 210, MSU 195, Westminster 191.5, Nevada 165.5, and Colorado Mountain 133.5.
The Nordic events of the DU Invite will be held Feb. 8-9.
In women's slalom action on Tuesday, Tea Kiesel paced the Bobcats finishing fifth with a two-run total of 1:30.65. Also, producing points were Falksete, 20th, 1:33.30, and Greenslade, 29th, 1:40.43.
Jamie Casselman led MSU on the men's side finishing 17th in slalom with a total clocking of 1:33.18. Perkins also notched points for the Bobcats placing 22nd in 1:35.19.
The RMISA alpine season opened on Monday with a qualifier at Loveland Ski Area in Georgetown, Colo. Kiesel led the MSU women placing seventh in slalom with a two-run total of 1:32.04. Boehm paced the Bobcat men with a sixth place showing in 1:28.98.
