Hometown hero starred at Manhattan Christian before All-American career at Dawson Community College
BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Montana State men's basketball is bringing a native son of Bozeman back home, head coach Matt Logie announced on Wednesday.
Seth Amunrud, a guard who won two Class C state championships at Manhattan Christian before becoming an All-American at Dawson Community College, has signed with the Bobcats ahead of the 2025-2026 season.
"We are extremely excited to add Seth to our MSU Basketball family after standout careers at both Dawson CC and Manhattan Christian High School," Logie said. "Seth is an incredibly efficient basketball player as evidenced by his statistics this past season at Dawson where he was named a Second Team Juco All-American. It is extremely rare in college basketball to find players who shoot over 50% from two, 40% from three, and have a two-to-one assist-to-turnover ratio, and Seth is one of those rare examples. It is no surprise that with those winning traits, Seth's teams have won a Juco region championship as well as two state titles at Manhattan Christian. We look forward to Seth bringing his winning traits back home to the Brick as a Bobcat."
Amunrud, a 6-foot-3 sharpshooter, comes to Bozeman after spending the last two years in Glendive, Montana, playing for the Buccaneers at Dawson Community College.
The 2024-2025 season saw Amunrud establish himself as one of the best junior college guards in the nation.
In 27.1 minutes per game this past season, the Bozeman native averaged 21.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.8 steals per game for DCC on the way to being named to the NJCAA Division 1 All-American Second Team.
Amunrud was only the seventh All-American in Dawson's 70-year history, and the first to earn Second Team All-American honors.
The guard led Dawson to a 29-4 record this past season and a Region XIII championship while being named Mon-Dak Tip-off Tournament MVP, Conference MVP, Region MVP and Region Tournament MVP.
Efficiency was where Amunrud shined the brightest, putting up video game numbers with over 21 points per game in just 27 minutes per outing while shooting an impressive 55.2% from the floor, 46.8% from deep, and 88.7% from the free throw line.
The future Bobcat ranked ninth in the country in three-point percentage, ninth in the country in steals, 16th in the country in scoring, and 16th in the country in free throw percentage.
In the Mon-Dak Conference, Amunrud ranked in the top five in nine different statistical categories and led the league in steals, 3-pointers made, and 3-point percentage.
During Amunrud's freshman season in 2023-2024, the guard averaged 13.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 42.6% from the floor and 35.3% from distance for a Buccaneer team that went 25-7.
Before arriving in Glendive, Amunrud established himself as one of the top prep players in the state of Montana during a decorated high school career at Manhattan Christian, earning All-State honors three times and leading the Eagles to a pair of Class C state titles.
Amunrud becomes the seventh announced signee for Montana State out of the transfer portal, joining forward Waka Mbatch (Florida State), forward Christian King (Washington), forward Chris Hodges (Wisconsin), guard Cavin Holden (Central Washington), forward Jaden Steppe (Colorado State), and guard Davian Brown (Biola).
The seven from the transfer portal complement Big Sky champion returners in guard Jed Miller and wing Patrick McMahon plus two incoming freshman signees C.J. Purdie (Davidson, N.C.) and Howie Keene (The Woodlands, TX).
Montana State men's basketball has won four Big Sky championships in the last four seasons and been to three NCAA Tournaments in that span (2022, 2023, 2024).
