Two Bobcats Earn Podium Spots On Final Day of 2026 RMISA Championships

Simon Chappaz and Justine LaMontagne grab runner-up finishes
BOZEMAN, Mont. (Feb. 28, 2026) – Montana State's Justine LaMontagne backed up her slalom championship on Friday with a runner-up finish in the giant slalom Saturday, and Bobcat Simon Chappaz finished second in the 20K Freestyle Nordic race on Saturday to wrap up the 2026 Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association (RMISA) Championships held in Bozeman and Midway, Utah.
LaMontagne capped her final weekend of competition on her home mountain in spectacular fashion. The senior from Mont Sainte-Anne, Quebec finished in the top three in all four of her runs between the slalom and giant slalom at Bozeman's Bridger Bowl, capturing second in Saturday's giant slalom with a mark of 1:36.13 across the two runs. She finished less than one second behind winner Louison Accambray of Colorado (1:35.51).
Seven hours south, Chappaz also finished less than one second off the pace to finish second in the 20K Freestyle race at Soldier Hollow in Midway, Utah. The grad student from LaClusaz, France finished in 38:58.9, behind Utah's Mons Melbye and his winning time of 48:58.1.
The Bobcats posted a strong second day in the cross country skate race. Gavin Galyardt finished 14th (51:36.3), Fredrik Nilsen was 20th (54:01.6), and Woody West placed 28th (56:24.0). Katey Houser's sixth-place finish paced the MSU women. She posted a time of 54:05.1. Felicie Chappaz was 14th (57:09.0), Maeve MacLeod 18th (58:38.3), Ella Ronci 21st (1:01:36.9) and Sabine Comeau 22nd (1:03:15.3). Rose Whittington-Evans and Ellinor Ness did not start.
Lily Sewell finished ninth in the women's giant slalom with a combined time of 1:37.32. Solveig Groenningsaeter finished 12th (1:38.08), Zoe Gray 15th (1:38.40), Tea Kiesel 18th (1:38.72) and Victoria Clancy 29th (1:43.59).
Four Bobcats finished in the top 12 of the men's giant slalom, led by Loic Spiegelberg's sixth-place finish with a combined mark of 1:35.94. Will Steed checked in one spot behind (1:35.98), while Torius Hepsoee was 11th (1:36.20) and Gianluca Boehm 12th (1:36.27). Ian Haupt finished 22nd (1:36.98), while Caleb Unger was 33rd (1:40.38) and Luc Dalton 36th (1:41.03).
Montana State finished the RMISA Championships fourth with 526 points, trailing champion Utah (669), Colorado (651) and Denver (560). MSU scored the third-most points in Alpine races and fifth-most in Nordic events. Montana State men combined to score the third-most points, while the women's skiers were fourth.
The next competition for Montana State is the 2026 NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Utah March 11-14.
