Bobcats card 289 in final round to finish eighth
'AIEA, Hawaii --- The Montana State women's golf team carded a trio of 72s in the final round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Wednesday to finish the tournament in eighth place.
The Cats posted the fifth-best team score on Wednesday with a 5-over 289 and finished the tournament with a 54-hole score of 890 on the par-71 course. Ashleigh Wilson was the top-finishing Montana State golfer at the Pearl at Kalauao with a 6-over 219.
"Proud of this group today for going out and putting up a good team score," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "We are seeing glimpses of what we can do. Obviously, coming out of the winter, it takes a few rounds to get back into it. They keep fighting, and the pieces will come together if they continue to put in the work. Seeing more red in the scorecards shows that they are fighting and starting to believe in themselves! Excited for a couple days of good practice outside in Arizona, and then we compete again next Monday and Tuesday!"
The Bobcats counted 72s from Wilson, Maddie Montoya, and Eva Heinz in the third round, as well as a 73 from Noral Seidl. Wilson went bogey-free on 12-straight holes during her round, highlighted by three birdies in the final four holes on the back nine.
