Montana State set for regular-season finale ahead of Big Sky Championship
BOZEMAN, Mont. --- The Montana State women's golf team concludes its regular season by hosting the Bobcat Desert Classic at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz., starting on Monday and continuing through Wednesday.
The tournament will consist of 54 holes – 18 each day – at the par-72, 6,218-yard Golf Club of Estrella course. Each day will begin with an 8:30 a.m. MDT/7:30 a.m. MST shotgun start in Arizona as the Bobcats look to finish at the top of the leaderboard in their final tournament before the Big Sky Championship on April 20-22.
"It's that time of year again – our tournament serves as the perfect warm-up for the Big Sky Conference Championship," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "Thirteen teams and 15 individuals will be competing, and it's shaping up to be a strong, competitive field. This year, we'll play 18 holes each day, which is a welcome change from the single-day 36-hole format.
"We're taking seven players who have each contributed to our success this season. I expect every one of them to bring great golf to Estrella. We still carry great memories of Greeny's dramatic win on the 18th green last year. That moment will be a source of motivation as we aim to contend for the team and an individual title this time around. This is our "home" tournament. It brings a little bit of excitement with family and friends out watching us.
"Our focus is simple and something we hope to accomplish at every tournament: play hard, fight for every shot, and keep the pedal down. It's go-time – all the hard work from this spring needs to show up on the course. After a few weeks of indoor preparation, it'll be great to be outside in Arizona watching these ladies compete."
Montana State is one of 13 teams set to take the course this week. Seven of the 10 Big Sky Conference teams will compete in the tournament, with the field including Eastern Washington, Idaho, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, Portland State, and Weber State. The remaining six teams include California Baptist, North Dakota State, Seattle U, Utah Valley, Utah Tech, and Wyoming.
Montana State comes off its fifth top-three team result of the 2025-26 season and will look to replicate that success in hits home tournament in Arizona. During the Bobcats' last visit to Arizona for the Bell Bank Pay It Forward Collegiate, held at the Wigwam Golf Club Blue Course in Litchfield Park Arizona on March 23-24, Montana State posted its program-best result on a par-71 course with a 14-under 838 showing for third place as a team. Ashleigh Wilson placed fourth individually at 6-under 207 as Norah Seidl (T-12th), Lauren Greeny (T-15th), and Eva Heinz (T-19th) all finished in the top 20. Wilson's 6-under result matched the third-lowest 54-hole individual score in program history.
The Bobcats will travel the same seven golfers from their previous tournament to the Bobcat Desert Classic, with Lauren Greeny, Norah Seidl, Eva Heinz, Maddie Montoya, and Ashleigh Wilson competing for a team score in Arizona. Sailor Graham and Lauren Nau will compete as individuals among the 80-player field.
The Bobcats are set to host the Bobcat Desert Classic for the fifth-straight year and will look to replicate their strong result at the 2025 iteration of the event. During last year's tournament, the Bobcats tied for second out of 10 teams at even-par 864, while Lauren Greeny earned her third victory of the 2024-25 season in a playoff on the 18th hole, finishing the tournament 8-under 208. Four Bobcats finished in the top 20 individually at the tournament as Eva Heinz tied for 12th and Scarlet Weidig and Becca Tschetter tied for 19th.
The Bobcats are paired with golfers from Seattle U, North Dakota State, and Weber State and will tee off from holes 1 through 4 in an 8:30 a.m. MDT shotgun start in Monday's first round. Nau and Graham will compete as individuals, teeing off from holes 5 and 18, respectively. Live scoring will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
