BOZEMAN, Mont. – April 15, 2026 – Ellen Kreighbaum Head Women's Basketball Coach Tricia Binford has signed transfer Braeden Gunlock. The sophomore from Bigfork, Montana returns to her home state for the 2026-27 season after spending her inaugural year at BYU.
"Braeden is a versatile, athletic, fierce competitor on both ends of the floor," Binford said. "She's a tough Montana kid who can guard multiple positions & score in multiple ways. She can shoot the three, attack off the dribble & rebound. We love her work ethic & is a home run in culture and fit for MSU Women's Basketball."
Gunlock appeared in 31 games for the Cougars in her freshman season and helped the team to a 26-12 record under head coach Lee Cummard. Her 47 total points contributed to a freshman effort that accounted for 38.7 percent of all points scored by BYU last season.
The Montana native had a breakout game at Portland when she totaled a season-high eight points and five rebounds in an 87-53 win. She averaged 8.3 minutes per game and totaled 35 rebounds in the season, which ended in the WBIT title game with a loss to Columbia.
Gunlock was a standout athlete at Bigfork High School, competing in basketball, soccer and track and field. She helped the Valkyries' basketball team to an undefeated season in 2023 which was capped by the Montana Class B State Championship, where she was named the tournament MVP, alongside her mom and head coach Cortnee Gunlock. She will join her mom, dad Troy, sister Paeten and brother Trae back in their home state for the upcoming season.
She was a two-time Montana Northwest A Conference Offensive Player of the Year, selected to the Montana All-State, All-Conference and All-Tournament team all four years of her high school career, and a four-time Montana Conference MVP. Gunlock also played for the Northwest Blazers club basketball team.
