Seidl cards a 79 to open her week in North Carolina
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- Montana State junior golfer Norah Seidl shot 9-over 79 on Monday to open the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Seidl finished her opening round tied for 61st individually among a field of elite golfers. The junior from Sankt Pölten, Austria, became the second-ever Bobcat (Maddie Montoya, 2025) to compete at an NCAA Regional when she teed off in North Carolina on Monday.
"Tough conditions with the wind today," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "Norah had some good shots. She just couldn't get the ball to drop and her bounces to go her way. She had a sweet chip-in and very good lag putts. She finished strong and had a good practice after. It's a special place, and she gets another opportunity to play on a sweet golf course. Looking forward to tomorrow's round."
Seidl opened Monday's first round on the 10th hole, sinking a pair of pars in a strong start to the day. She carded her lone birdie of the day on hole 15 while adding another par on 17 before making the turn to the front nine at 5-over par. After a pair of bogeys on holes 1 and 2 and a double bogey on hole 4, Seidl found her groove, sinking five-straight pars on holes 5 through nine to provide positive momentum heading into Tuesday's second round.
North Carolina's Megan Streicher leads the individual field at 5-under 65 after one round of competition, while the Tar Heels also lead the team competition at 6-under 274. Texas (-1), Virginia (+1), Oklahoma State (+2), and Mississippi State (+2) round out the top five teams after 18 holes of play in Chapel Hill. Princeton's Thanana Kotchasanmanee is the top-ranking individual golfer at 4-under 66 and currently sits in a tie for second place. The top five teams and the top individual not on an advancing team at the end of 54 holes will advance to the NCAA Championships in Carlsbad, Calif., on May 22-27.
Seidl is paired with UNC Wilmington's Victoria Levy and Appalachian State's Zoe Duval for Tuesday's second round and will tee off from hole 10 at 7:50 a.m. MT. Live scoring is available at scoreboard.clippd.com, and the tournament's second round will be live streamed on the Babygrande Golf YouTube Channel here.
