Wysocki, Ells Complete Opening Day of Multis at Big Sky Outdoor Championships

Wysocki ranks second in decathlon, Ells ninth in heptathlon after first day of competition
GRESHAM, Ore. --- Preston Wysocki and Hailey Ells set themselves up for potential points-scoring opportunities in the multi-events after their first day of competition at the Big Sky Outdoor Championship on Wednesday.
Wysocki currently sits in second place after five events in the decathlon, while Ells ranks ninth in the heptathlon with four events completed at Earl L. Klapstein Stadium in Gresham, Ore. Both Bobcats will look to collect points for Montana State on Thursday, with their remaining events set to take place throughout the morning and afternoon tomorrow.
Wysocki opened Montana State's day with a win in the decathlon's 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 11.02 to set the tone for a strong day. He followed up that performance with a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 6.59 meters/21 feet, 7.50 inches before adding a third-place result in the shot put with a mark of 11.77m/38-7.50. Wysocki then took home a pair of runner-up finishes in the high jump (1.97m/6-5.50) and the 400m (49.35) to complete his first day of the decathlon in second place overall with 3,787 points thanks to top-five finishes in each of his five events. He remains 78 points behind Weber State's Tyler Warnock for the decathlon lead with five events remaining on Thursday.
Ells compiled 2,715 points across the heptathlon's first four events on Wednesday and sits just 25 points out of a points-scoring position in ninth place with three events remaining. She opened her day with a ninth-place finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.16 before tying for 14th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.45m/4-9.00. Ells then placed 12th in the 9.46m/31-0.50 before recording her best result of the day with a fourth-place finish in the 200m with a time of 25.58.
Sabine Brueck also competed in the first two events of the heptathlon, placing fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.99 before failing to record a height in the high jump. She did not start the final two events of the day and will not finish the heptathlon in Gresham.

Montana State will continue competition in the multis on Thursday, beginning with Wysocki in the men's 100m hurdles at 11 a.m. MT. Ells will open her day of competition in the long jump at 12 p.m. MT.
