Joey Lovell enters his fourth season as an assistant coach for Montana State Golf in 2024-2025.
Assisting head coach Brittany Basye, Lovell has helped construct the best stretch in program history, as the Cats have finished in the top-four at consecutive Big Sky Championships, including a runner-up result in 2023.
In 2023-2024, the Bobcats continued to completely re-write the record books, with five of the top six all-time 54-hole tournament performances in program history, five of the top nine all-time 18-hole team rounds in program history, and six of the top nine all-time 18-hole rounds by an individual.
Additionally, Scarlet Weidig (73.83) and Lauren Greeny (74.10) finished with the two lowest scoring averages in school history.
Lovell continues to compete on the local and national level and has qualified for U.S. Open Final Qualifying in 2015 and 2021, was the Montana State Amateur champion in 2021 and 2022, and competed in the 2022 United States Amateur.
Lovell was inducted into the Montana State Golf Association Hall of Fame in 2023.
The native of Sandpoint, Idaho, played collegiately at both Lewis-Clark State and Boise State, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Prior to coaching, Lovell worked as the Head Golf Professional at The Idaho Club in Sandpoint, the only Jack Nicklaus signature golf course in the state of Idaho.
Upon moving to Bozeman in 2013, he worked as First Assistant Golf Professional and later as the Director of Operations at Black Bull Golf Club.
Lovell resides in Bozeman with his wife Kelly and their son Jack. The Lovell’s are expecting another baby boy in Fall 2024.
