Montana State Director of Athletics Peter Fields announced that the $8 million fundraising goal to expand the Bobcat football stadium had been reached.
Phase one of the project includes tearing down the old southeast bleachers and replacing them with 4,500 new seats, plus new restrooms, concessions, visiting team locker room, wheelchair access, and a new scoreboard. Currently, the university is planning to present an expanded $10 million plan to the Board of Regents this week to finish phase two of the project which will include bowling in the end zone to connect the seating section with the present east and west bleachers.
"I'm encouraged by the enthusiastic response we've received. I want to thank our fans and those who have donated to the project, because they make this possible. The improvements to Bobcat Stadium would create an environment more conducive to NCAA Division I athletics for our student-athletes, students, and fans."
MSU Foundation Interim President Michael Stevenson said MSU would have until the end of December to raise the additional $2 million,to finish the bowl piece of the project. The additional private donations would increase the number of new seats to 7,200.
