The Montana State volleyball team used a balanced attack and had its best blocking night of the season, en route to a 25-22, 28-26, 25-20 win over Weber State, Saturday night in Swenson Gym for its first Big Sky Conference win of the season.
"It was great for the kids to see their hard work over the last two weeks payoff," said MSU head coach Kyle Weindel. "We had contributions from all of our attackers and we were scoring from all positions on the court."
Montana State (3-14, 1-5) hit a season-high .287 from the floor and out-blocked Weber State (5-15, 1-5) 10-9. Kennadie Clute paced MSU with 15 kills, while Loni Kreun added 11 kills, a .391 attack mark and a team-high seven digs. The Bobcats also received a strong contribution from its sophomore tandem of Natalee Godfrey and Eli Svisco, who combined for 15 kills and 11 blocks.
MSU also got a boost from senior middle blocker Megan Spofford, who posted a perfect hitting percentage on five kills, while adding three blocks. Setter Anna Sykora dished out 41 assists in the victory.
"The key was our balance," Weindel said. "Our left-sides really picked it up after the opening set, and I'm happy with the way we closed out the match."
WSU was led by Audrey Bigg with 10 kills.
MSU will host Northern Arizona on Friday night in Shroyer Gym.
