After playing its last four Big Sky Conference matches on the road, the Montana State volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of Shroyer Gym for a pair of league matches this weekend. The Bobcats will host its annual ‘Dig Pink’ match on Friday, Oct. 11 against Northern Arizona at 7 p.m.

After playing its last four Big Sky Conference matches on the road, the Montana State volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of Shroyer Gym for a pair of league matches this weekend. The Bobcats will host its annual 'Dig Pink' match on Friday, Oct. 11 against Northern Arizona at 7 p.m. All tickets will be $4. Fans can make donations, which will go to help fund The Side-Out Protocol clinical trial for stage 4 breast cancer patients. These patients have reached a point where standard chemotherapy is no longer helping. Please go to the Bobcat volleyball webpage for more information or to make a donation - www.msubobcats.com. Montana State will close out weekend play on Saturday night at 7 p.m. against Southern Utah University.
ABOUT THE BOBCATS:
Montana State got its much-needed first Big Sky Conference win of the season, and its first road victory of the fall, as well, with a 25-22, 28-26, 25-20 win over Weber State on Saturday night. In the match, the Bobcats hit a season-high .287 from the field, and posted its best blocking match in Big Sky action with 10 team blocks. MSU continues to look toward its youth to find success. Freshman Kennadie Clute is establishing herself as the front-runner for league Freshman of the Year honors, averaging a Big Sky best 4.09 kills and 4.63 points per set. Those marks are also second-best in the nation at the NCAA Division I level by a rookie. The Spokane, Wash., native ranks 33rd overall in the country in both categories. Freshman setter Anna Sykora is also having an outstanding first season averaging 10.31 assists per contest, which is 7th best in the nation for a freshman.
THE SCOUTING REPORT:
Northern Arizona (11-4, 5-1) has won three straight matches and five of its last six heading into Friday's match. NAU is led by Janae Vander Ploeg, who is averaging 3.14 kills and 2.53 digs per set. MSU trails the Lumberjacks 33-20 in the all-time series dating back to the 1987 season. The Bobcats have dropped 13 straight to NAU. MSU's last win 10-26-06.
FAB FROSH, PART I:
Kennadie Clute, a 6-1 outside hitter from Spokane, continues to be Montana State's top offensive threat, racking up a Big Sky best 296.5 points in the first 17 matches. In addition, Clute has been in double-figure kills in all 17 matches. She is ranked first in the league averaging 4.09 kills per set and her 28 kills against North Dakota is the top mark in the Big Sky, as well.
GOOD GODFREY:
Sophomore Natalee Godfrey put together a solid start to the season for the Bobcats, hitting 253 from the field, while averaging 1.91 kills and .80 blocks per set. Last weekend, she averaged 2.50 kills and 1.83 blocks per set.
FAB FROSH, PART II:
Freshman Anna Sykora continued her hot-hand. The 5-11 setter from Rapid City, SD, dished out 74 assists last weekend and is averaging 10.31 assists per set. The mark is 3rd best in the Big Sky. Sykora is also averages 1.72 dps.
THE BUTCHER, THE BAKER, THE DIG-MAKER:
Senior libero Nicole Baker averaged 2.83 digs per set last weekend and ranks 9th in the Big Sky. She is 2nd in aces.
FAB FROSH, PART III:
Freshman outside hitter Loni Kreun is averaging 3.12 kills per set, which is fifth in the Big Sky Conference. Kreun is second on the team with 224.5 points scored. In addition, she is second on the squad, averaging 2.31 digs per set. Last weekend at Idaho State and Weber State, Kreun averaged 2.83 kills and 2.17 digs per game.
SPUDTASTIC:
Senior middle blocker Megan Spofford had her best weekend in Big Sky action, averaging 1.00 kps, while hitting .714 from the floor and adding 1.00 bps. On the year, the Idaho Falls native leads MSU with a .284 attack mark.
