“When we finally stopped giving up big stretches of points and played hard, things started to turn,” Weindel said. “I really liked the energy we generated, and we also got a big boost from our men’s basketball team with their support.”
The Montana State volleyball team snapped a six-match Big Sky Conference losing streak, rallying for a 21-25, 27-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-10 win over Eastern Washington, Saturday night in Shroyer Gym.
"We focused all week on transition and defense," MSU Head Coach Kyle Weindel said. "We worked on keeping rallies alive and giving ourselves a chance. I'm very proud of the way the kids battled and fought. Hopefully, they'll see that when we have good energy and execute we have the potential to be a very good team."
Trailing 2-1 and down 14-7 in the fourth set, Montana State (5-19, 2-10) rattled off a 15-8 run to even the stanza at 22-all following a Natalee Godfrey kill. Eastern Washington (9-16, 5-7) answered with an Allie Schumacher kill to take a one-point lead, but another Godfrey kill tied the score for the fifth time.
An MSU attack error gave EWU a 24-23 advantage and match point, but a service error via Milica Nisavic evened the score at 24-all, and coupled with an Eagle ball-handling error and hitting miscue the Bobcats were able to force a fifth set.

In the final set, the Bobcats broke away from a seven-all tie with a 7-2 run, sparked by kills from Eli Svisco, Godfrey and Kennadie Clute. On match point, it was Clute that was able to roll the ball over the net for the Bobcat victory.
"Natalee has just been on fire," Weindel said. "And, offensively, we are doing a lot of different things with Eli, and for her to hit .270 in her second match on the left side is outstanding."
Clute finished with a match-high 19 kills, while Godfrey added 16 and Svisco 12. Setter Katie Harrington dished out 49 assists and added 12 digs for a double-double. Also in double-figure digs were Kasey Schlatter 17, Clute 13 and Svisco 11.
For the first time since Sept. 20, the Bobcats out-blocked its opponent. MSU held a 15-10 advantage at the net. Freshman Jolie Meade paced Montana State with eight blocks, while Godfrey added five and Harrington and Clute four.
EWU was guided by Melissa Waelter with 18 kills and 14 digs.
MSU will travel to North Dakota on Thursday.
