“We had a solid day up and down the ladder,” MSU Head Coach Denise Albrecht said. “We’ve been doing a super job in doubles, and that is setting the tone for us as we head into singles play. We got a couple a wins from our upperclassmen, which are important, and it was super to have a freshman (Phillipova) close out the match.”
The Montana State women's tennis team defeated Idaho State in non-conference play, 4-3, Friday afternoon in Reed Gym.
Montana State freshman Angelina Phillipova rallied from a first set loss at No. 3 singles to record a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Idaho State's Svenja Tegtmeier to secure the win for the Bobcats.
MSU opened the match winning Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to take an early 1-0 advantage on the Bengals. The Bobcats then took matches at Nos. 1, 3, and 4 singles. Montana State's top player Laura Middel notched a straight set 7-5, 7-5 decision over Kasey Bacon, while Kalispell product Liana Bates registered a 7-5, 6-1 sweep of Madelyn Weltzin at the No. 4 spot.
