MSU tops Northern Colorado for home triumph
Montana State capped an important weekend with an impressive win, sa the Bobcat men's tennis team topped Northern Colorado 6-1 in Bozeman on Saturday.
MSU clinched the doubles point when Kellen Bates and Mateus Ceolin won by default on an injury withdrawal. Harry James and Alex Flink had previously won their match.
Bates, Ceolin and Rok Sitar registered wins in the first three singles matches to finish to wrap up MSU's win. The victory gave the Cats a weekend sweep of UNC and Eastern Washington, boosting the team to four league wins and drastically improving the odds of MSU qualifying for the Big Sky's six-team post-season tournament.
"We got through the doubles point," said MSU coach Jared Burnham, "and that was big. I thought we played a little tight, but we got through it."
Burnham said it was a team victory. "We're a young team at most spots so there's some inconsistency," he said. "But we played really well at times. Matty (Ceolin) had a very good day. I'm proud of how they're competing."
