Freshman Kelly Hooper lands in top 10
Despite the bumps along the way, Montana State golf coach Brittany Basye was pleased with the start and very happy with the finish at the Cougar Cup in Pullman, Washington.
"We had another round under 300 so I'm excited about that," Basye said after her team's final round of 299 kept the team in fifth place. "The direction this team is going is positive."
Freshman Kelly Hooper topped an outstanding tournament with a scintillating 70 the finishing round. She finished tied for 10th with a 220. "Kelly had a great tournament, and with her final round today ended up in the top 10. She had an excellent tournament."
Junior Jaylee Tait shot 76 on Tuesday to finish with a 223 (18th place). Clare Dittemore's 75 gave her a score of 225 (21st), while Janelle Reali shot 78 on Tuesday to finish with a 226, good for 25th. Coral Schulz shot an 84 for a final total of 239 and 52nd place.
Basye was pleased with her team's effort and improvement. "We decreased our high numbers today, and that' a great step in the right direction. We need to keep grinding and keep believing in ourselves. These ladies can play some golf once they put their minds to it."
The Cats take next weekend off before returning to competition in the Cowgirl Classic on October 3.
