“I thought we were much more competitive than our match against Montana,” said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. “We had some kids step up in different situations today and it was important for them to have that experience, learn from it, gain confidence and know that they can get the job done.”
Montana State and Seattle U split the first two doubles matches, before the Redhawks claimed the final match at the No. 2 spot taking the opening point, en route to a 4-3 victory over the Bobcats on Sunday in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
Seattle U opened singles play with a straight set win at No. 4 as Kelli Woodman downed Enni Zander 6-2, 6-2. Bobcat sophomore Laura Mary closed the match to 2-1 defeating Michelle Lui 6-3, 6-0 at the top spot.
The Redhawks answered with a win at No. 3 singles, but MSU freshman Annie Walker pulled the Bobcats to within 3-2 with a straight set 6-3, 6-3 victory over Hannah Gianan at No. 2. Seattle U clinched the match at No. 4 as Kali McCollister cruised past Emma Podeur 6-0, 6-0. MSU freshman Sara Iverson closed out the scoring with a hard-fought 7-6(7), 6-4 win over Audrey Scott at the No. 6 position.
