Bobcats Pickup First Big Sky Road Win

“It was a great team effort to get a solid win,” said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. “Road wins are always hard, but we were prepared and ready to fight for every ball.”
Montana State opened its match at Weber State with different combinations at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles than what it's been accustomed too this season, but it didn't deter the Bobcats as MSU cruised to its first Big Sky Conference road win of the season with a 6-1 decision over the Wildcats on Sunday afternoon.
"It was a great team effort to get a solid win," said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. "Road wins are always hard, but we were prepared and ready to fight for every ball."
Montana State's (8-8, 2-2) veteran duo of Marta Garcia-Reboredo and Hudson Hawkins moved up to the top spot where the tandem posted a dominating 6-1 victory over Weber State's (0-17, 0-6) Sydney Schnell and Jessica Hill. MSU's No. 3 pairing of Andrea Cuquerella and Meg McCarty clinched the opening point with a 6-3 victory over Aleks Bozinovska and Alicia Morales.
"We did a great job of being the aggressor in doubles," Woodburn stated. "We won a lot of big deuce points to get the win. We used that momentum as we started singles."
Hawkins, a sophomore from Las Vegas, put the Bobcats up 2-0 opening singles at No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Morales. McCarty, playing at her usual No. 2 spot, quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hill. Garcia-Reboredo secured the match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Schnell at the top of the ladder.
Kavya Khirwar (No. 5) and Mia Ljubas (No. 6) stepped into the Bobcats singles rotation, both winning in straight sets to complete MSU's scoring.
"It was awesome to see Mia and Kavya get big wins for our team today," Woodburn added.
