Bobcats post 2-1 record during three-game road trip
SEATTLE, Wash. – The Montana State women's tennis team cruised to a 5-2 victory over Seattle U on Thursday to win its second match in five days.
The Bobcats' stat line from their match against the Redhawks mirrored that of Montana State's victory over Portland State on Sunday. MSU took the doubles point along with singles wins on courts three through six to improve its record to 5-9 on the season.
"Today's match was a great way to finish this trip," Montana State head coach Hailey Barrett said. "We played hard and competed well all the way through. I'm really happy with how we are playing doubles. Our teams are working together very well, and we are executing what we need to. We hung tough in singles and competed at all six spots."
The Cats earned their third-straight doubles point to take the lead early in Thursday's match. Angel Bean and Nia Gelashvili earned their fifth-straight doubles win on court two, defeating Amina Avdic and Daria Nazarenko, 6-4, before Lola Bean and Kavya Khirwar secured a dominant 6-1 victory over Larissa Teramura and Maija Tamura at No. 3 doubles. Anna Wise and Terezie Stverakova were just one game away from clinching a victory on court one, leading Lamija Avdic and Natalia Michta, 6-5, before the match went unfinished.
Stverakova earned Montana State's second point of the day, leading Teramura, 6-0, 1-0, on court four before Teramura was forced to retire, giving the Bobcats the point. Khirwar then posted a 6-2, 6-0 sweep over Tamura at No. 6 singles to extend Montana State's lead to 3-0. Seattle U's Lamia Avdic put the Redhawks on the board with a 6-3, 6-3 over Wise at No. 1 singles, but the Bobcats responded to put the match away as Angel Bean postead a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Nazarenko to earn her third-straight singles win. Nia Gelashvili fell to Michta, 7-5, 6-2, on court two before Lola Bean closed the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Amina Avdic on court five to help the Bobcats secure the 5-2 team victory.
