Bobcats play Bengals in Pocatello on Wednesday, Lumberjacks in Bozeman on Friday
BOZEMAN, Mont. --- The Montana State women's tennis team is set to face a pair of Big Sky opponents this week, traveling to Pocatello, Idaho, to face Idaho State on Wednesday before returning to the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center for a Friday afternoon matchup against Northern Arizona.
The Bobcats will look to continue their strong form in their final road match of the regular season against the Bengals at 1 p.m. MT on Wednesday, with live results available here. Montana State will then open a string of four-straight home matches to conclude the regular season, hosting Northern Arizona at 11 a.m. MT on Friday. Live results for the match can be found on msubobcats.com.
"We are excited for a great challenge tomorrow against Idaho State," Montana State head coach Hailey Barrett said. "They are a strong team top to bottom and compete hard. We will look to be confident and tough in the big moments and stay consistent with our focus. We're ready for a great match."
The Bobcats return to the court after nearly two weeks off, last competing in a trio of matches at Portland State (March 15), Portland (March 17), and Seattle U (March 19). The Bobcats went 2-1 in those matches, earning a 5-2 conference victory over the Vikings and a 4-2 win over the Redhawks while dropping a 5-2 decision to Portland. Montana State took the doubles point in all three matches and earned singles victories in the three through six slots in both of their match wins during the three-game road stretch. Angel Bean holds the Bobcats' longest winning streak in singles with victories on court three in each of her last three matches.
Montana State will enter Wednesday's match against the Bengals with a 5-9 record, including a 1-3 record in conference play. The Bengals are 8-7 overall and 2-2 in Big Sky play but are coming off a string of three-straight losses against Northern Arizona (4-3, March 26), UC Davis (6-1, March 28), and Sacramento State (6-1, March 29). Prior to last week, the Bengals had won each of their last eight matches. The Bobcats have won six of their last eight matches against Idaho State, with both of the Bengals' wins during that stretch coming during the 2024-25 season.
The Bobcats will face a strong Northern Arizona team on Friday as the Lumberjacks enter the contest on a three-game winning streak. NAU defeated Portland State, 6-1, on March 22; earned a 4-3 victory over Idaho State on March 26; and posted a 6-1 victory over Eastern Washington on March 28 during a strong stretch of matches. The Lumberjacks are 5-5 overall and 4-1 in Big Sky play with four regular-season matches to go. Northern Arizona is a historically tough test for the Bobcats, with the Lumberjacks winning 15 of 16 matchups since 2010. The Bobcats' lone win came in the last matchup between the two teams in Bozeman, with Montana State securing a 4-3 victory on May 5, 2024.
Montana State will gear up for a rivalry matchup against Montana on Saturday, April 11 before facing Weber State in the regular-season finale on Sunday, April 19. Both matches will be held at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
